1006297 jdawg78 : I do not know.
1006298 CaptainJack : i think they could be
1006299 CaptainJack : which could limit free speach
1006300 CaptainJack : so then you enter a zoo
1006301 jdawg78 : I don't see it limiting free speech. Just making people accountable for what they say.
1006302 jdawg78 : However, I think the problem is with cancel culture.
1006303 jdawg78 : Maybe someone said something 20 years ago that they no longer agree with.
1006304 jdawg78 : Why should we suddenly gang up on the person?
1006305 jdawg78 : Are there things that you believe now that you didn't believe when you were 10?
1006307 jdawg78 : Exactly.
1006308 CaptainJack : people are devious
1006309 CaptainJack : i was brought up nieve
1006310 jdawg78 : Socrates said -I only know that I know nothing.-
1006311 CaptainJack : smarter guy than me
1006312 jdawg78 : that was his point.
1006313 CaptainJack : i dont believe in control
1006314 jdawg78 : he said that since he knows he knows nothing, he was technically smarter than someone that claimed to know everything.
1006315 CaptainJack : i believe in arfument and discussion
1006316 CaptainJack : control contains deceit and argument has no place to hide
1006317 jdawg78 : Arguments and discussions in a civil way.
1006318 CaptainJack : yes of course
1006319 CaptainJack : but, something im guilty of, is i will try to provoke discussion through ideas not often shared
1006320 jdawg78 : Have you ever read up on logical fallacies?
1006321 CaptainJack : ironically if i dont agre with them lol
1006322 jdawg78 : I did an intro course back in college.
1006323 jdawg78 : Pretty interesting stuff.
1006324 CaptainJack : no what is it?
1006325 jdawg78 : When people argue they sometimes argue with fallacies.
1006326 jdawg78 : Like the straw man fallacy. It's when you present a slightly altered argument to debunk it.
1006328 CaptainJack : i think we all do that
1006329 CaptainJack : we provoke alternative ideals
1006330 CaptainJack : unless you think you are always right
1006331 jdawg78 : But you must avoid it when arguing effectively.
1006332 jdawg78 : Like if someone said -condoms should be offered for free in colleges-
1006333 jdawg78 : And someone would argue, *straw man* -They want to give out condoms to encourage kids to have more sex!-
1006334 CaptainJack : they should be
1006335 jdawg78 : See how the straw man fallacy presents the argument slightly altered?
1006336 CaptainJack : for every positive there is a negative
1006337 jdawg78 : Just google logical fallacies and you will see a list of different mistakes made in arguments and debates.
1006338 CaptainJack : the issue i think when those that decide have no baLANCED IDEAL
1006339 CaptainJack : sorry caps
1006340 jdawg78 : Also when arguing, make sure your opponent doesn't spring one on you. If they do, point it out.
1006341 CaptainJack : you are like bill
1006342 CaptainJack : ive been through a lot of crap, i overthink every angle
1006343 jdawg78 : Ad hominum is when you reject an argument based on the person giving the argument. It's irrelavant.
1006344 CaptainJack : elitist?
1006345 jdawg78 : Like The earth is flat because Stephen Hawkings was in a wheelchair.
1006347 jdawg78 : I am overweight, but if I say -It's better to eat a salad than a pizza-
1006348 jdawg78 : It's true...but a mistake *ad hominum* -He can't be true because he-s fat./
1006349 jdawg78 : Me being fat does not make it less true. Sure, I should eat more salad.
1006350 CaptainJack : i like the way you argue
1006351 CaptainJack : definately bill
1006352 CaptainJack : latin talk though
1006354 jdawg78 : I watch a lot of debates.
1006355 CaptainJack : it cant be true because he is fat
1006356 CaptainJack : me too
1006357 jdawg78 : But I can back up the statement with evidence and statements by doctors and dieticians.
1006358 CaptainJack : i like arguments
1006359 CaptainJack : it gets the real people out of their seat
1006360 CaptainJack : pat will ask, person/people seat/seats
1006361 jdawg78 : I was watching this show last night.
1006362 jdawg78 : And this guy said he saw God when he was struck in the eye with some rebar.
1006363 jdawg78 : So the basic question -How do you know it was God?-
1006364 jdawg78 : -Because he told me he was God-
1006365 CaptainJack : y?
1006366 CaptainJack : that makes no sense
1006367 jdawg78 : But if the brain is losing blood, and you are starved of oxygen, the brain starts to hallucinate.
1006368 jdawg78 : Which is what they said may be more likely...
1006369 CaptainJack : well thats different ideals
1006370 jdawg78 : Even if it wasn't, it could have been a demon saying they were God...
1006371 jdawg78 : Could have been a Doctor with a sick sense of humor.
1006372 CaptainJack : that doesnt explain golk being above the operating table watching their op
1006374 jdawg78 : People can imagine that.
1006375 CaptainJack : none of us actually know what happens next
1006376 jdawg78 : Here's the thing, someone gives you a story of a time when they were under anisthetic, bleeding, and almost dying...
1006377 jdawg78 : When their senses are the most unreliable.
1006378 CaptainJack : logical folk dismiss unproven theories
1006379 CaptainJack : ive read that stuff
1006380 jdawg78 : We do know that when the brain loses oxygen, it produces endorphins which make you feel happy.
1006381 jdawg78 : Pilots are told to wear oxygen masks once they reach a certain altitude...otherwise they could hallucinate.
1006382 CaptainJack : we go by what life has exposed to us, good and bad
1006383 CaptainJack : the important thing is never to think your logic is flawless
1006384 CaptainJack : energy cant be destroyed
1006385 CaptainJack : it changes state
1006386 jdawg78 : True.
1006387 CaptainJack : you are suggesting as the brain is deprived oxygen it creates happy ideals
1006388 jdawg78 : It releases endorphins which makes you feel calm.
1006389 CaptainJack : ive met some brains in that situation to suggest the opposite
1006390 CaptainJack : have you seen someone die of a heart attack?
1006391 jdawg78 : Yes.
1006392 CaptainJack : what did you see
1006393 Travis : howdy boys
1006394 CaptainJack : hola trosky
1006395 jdawg78 : What I see and what the person experiences are two different things.
