aegis1 : ‹@Verntuzo› When OpenOffice was sold to Oracle in the acquisition of Sun Microsystems, it splintered into Libre Office.
aegis1 : ‹@Verntuzo› It forked, if that is a better word..
Verntuzo : Ok, I have used oppen office sometimes
jdawg78 : I've used libreoffice.
jdawg78 : Google Docs works too.
aegis1 : ‹@Verntuzo› Since I work in the Microsoft world, but Linux in my personal life, Libre Office fits into both, and is convenient.
jdawg78 : That is online so you don't have to download anything.
aegis1 : Good point, JD. Android is a fork of Linux.
jdawg78 : docs.google.com/document/...
Verntuzo : Well it seem very good aegis, I will try sometime jej
jdawg78 : I used to use Linux for years.
jdawg78 : But it didn't really support my graphics card.
Verntuzo : It need my email or my smarphone jeje
jdawg78 : It might now.
Verntuzo : I havent a account
Verntuzo : Bien camaradas el deber me llama
aegis1 : Likewise for me.
Verntuzo : Nos vemos más al rato
Ric : I'm starting to feel the odd one out among all these computer geeks lol
jdawg78 : Hola Ric!
Ric : I'm getting my feet wet in programming for the first time this year
Ric : Jd!
jdawg78 : Which language?
jdawg78 : I know how to print Hello World in Python.
Ric : lol that was the first command I learned
jdawg78 : Yeah,
jdawg78 : That's as far as I got.
Zaratustra : windows+R, regedit
jdawg78 : Which flavor of Linux do you use Aegis?
aegis1 : Debian, with KDE
engi : I spent a year as a Windows 95 engineer for Microsoft UK
jdawg78 : I wonder how hard it will be to install.
jdawg78 : My experience is that you have to break your computer a few times before it works correctly.
aegis1 : ‹@engi› I wish there was some way to support it.. it would SCREAM on todays hardware.
engi : How about Win 3.1?
engi : It would be supersonic
aegis1 : ‹@jdawg78› It is not so bad these days. HP and IBM invested heavily in Linux. All the major graphics companies support it with drivers (or so I read)
aegis1 : Bring back General Protection Faults !!!
jdawg78 : I have Win 3.1 on my phone.
jdawg78 : You can download it from the app store now.
aegis1 : Win95 was 'pre-emptive multitasking' and NT was
aegis1 : 'cooperative multitasking'.
aegis1 : NT is much slower for that reason, but much safer with rogue application programs.
Zaratustra : win95, es prehistoria
aegis1 : Yes, but so am I , arguably.
Zaratustra : han pasado 24 años
Zaratustra : 24 años en informatica es un mundo
jdawg78 : I am downloading lubuntu right now.
aegis1 : Lubuntu has the LXDE environment. It is a light-weight desktop; good for older machines. It is really fast on new hardware.
jdawg78 : I just figure it would be faster to download to see if I can install it somehow.
aegis1 : If you are going to dual-boot, find a tutorial first. The windows bootloader does not easily work with linux. So you need to use GRUB for your boot-sector loader.
aegis1 : If it is the only OS, no worries.
jdawg78 : Before I just ran it from the CD...
jdawg78 : And it had the option to install on the computer which set up the dual boot and all.
jdawg78 : the problem is that this machine doesn't have a dvd drive.
aegis1 : Yes, if it is a Live CD. You mentioned installing it.
jdawg78 : So how would I do it without having a CD?
aegis1 : The 'Live CD' can run the OS from the CD, or DVD. That is what the Live word implies. Not all install CDs are the Live version.
jdawg78 : I don't have a cd drive.
jdawg78 : My old computer did. I ran it from the live CD...and it had an option to install on hard disk from the OS.
jdawg78 : But now I don't have a CD Drive.
aegis1 : You maybe can d/l the image and make a USB stick. I carry a Debian bootable thumb drive on my keyring with software tools.
jdawg78 : I need a usb stick I suppose. LOL
aegis1 : Sorry for that malformed sentence.
jdawg78 : I wonder if I could use my phone as a usb drive.
aegis1 : Not in that application. A phone is a 'block device' but not recognized as a bootable one, that I know.
jdawg78 : I'm sure someone has created an app for it.
jdawg78 : I'm sure someone has created an app for it.
aegis1 : no doubt.
aegis1 : Thanks for the chat. I must go.
engi : cheer aegis
engi : cheers!
engi : tengo que ir me tambien....
engi : hasta manana!
jdawg78 : Time to work.
jdawg78 : Hasta luego!
Jugador : ballz!
Jugador : Quiet night...
Jugador : hablame por dios
Lynx : buenas,Jug!
Jugador : salud dices, no me jodas
Lynx : si fui al super y la frutería
Jugador : la fruta eso es salud
Jugador : si señor
