BillMcneal : an electrician just came to my house, i need him to fix a couple of things
CaptainJack : Whats wrong?
BillMcneal : but he kept talking about this and that, suggesting possible ways to do stuff, and i was all "aha, yeah, right"
BillMcneal : nothing important
PauLa : it meant $$$$
BillMcneal : but he was trying to sell me more services that i requested
BillMcneal : right!
BillMcneal : thing is i'm wearing old jogging pants and a sweater, can't he see i have no money to pay any of that? haha
BillMcneal : must be really desperate
CaptainJack : These days people who come to fix things generally get paid commission for new work
PauLa : but the man needed money, as well, life!!
BillMcneal : he said he could give me a discount depending on which bank i use; me?
CaptainJack : Same when you buy an appliance, they try to sell daft insurance
BillMcneal : banco de la placita
BillMcneal : what if they steal your hair dryer? get insurance!
Macuahuitl : Cap, what does "daft" mean?
PauLa : oh my
CaptainJack : not smart
Macuahuitl : Ahh, okay. Thanks.
Macuahuitl : :)
BillMcneal : yeah, you can dry your hair with natural wind
PauLa : and summer will come......... so
PauLa : hey not mine
PauLa : it too long
CaptainJack : Just feel lucky you have hair D
BillMcneal : cut it short, it's hip now... again
PauLa : I will think about it
BillMcneal : hair is so inconsequential and yet so desired
BillMcneal : it's like height
PauLa : yes for girls
BillMcneal : yes to what
PauLa : it is desired
CaptainJack : Yes, they like height and hair :D
BillMcneal : well, hair and height are good for nothing
BillMcneal : i imagine shorter people eat less (?)
BillMcneal : it's cheaper :P
PauLa : good idea, I would cut my hair
PauLa : I´ll be bald
CaptainJack : I seen a dwarf when I was out the other night, I've not seen one for years
PauLa : but can´t cut my height
CaptainJack : Are you tall paula?
PauLa : more or less Jacko
BillMcneal : they say they prefer being called "little people", but doesn't it sound worse? i get it that not all little people have dwarfism, but... maybe there's another word?
CaptainJack : Wee Man I guess in Scotland :D
CaptainJack : Everyone is either Wee Man or Big Man
BillMcneal : what i really don't understand is why spanish speakers don't like being called "ciegos", they prefer "no vidente", but i never thought "ciego" carried a negative connotation
BillMcneal : a country of contrasts eh?
CaptainJack : What does that mean Bill?
PauLa : I guess it is more delicate
CaptainJack : and no vidente is no sight?
BillMcneal : i'm alright with calling people whatever they want to be called, i just don't get how that word came to be seen as pejorative, which i never thought it was
PauLa : same as negros and afrodescendientes
BillMcneal : no vidente = that can't see, essentially (i'm trying to be as literal as possible)
BillMcneal : ok, negro makes sense, they're not even really black
CaptainJack : I think the names people say are not important, its who says it and how they say it
BillMcneal : i agree, but the world doesn't :P
PauLa : I know what you mean, but the other people can feel himself you´re been rude
BillMcneal : i guess
CaptainJack : We called the Chinese 'Chinkies' here for years, but now its offensive, it seems similar to calling Scottish Scots
BillMcneal : maybe because diminutives sound patronizing
PauLa : like argies and yoruguas
BillMcneal : you don't like yorugua? it's just vesre
PauLa : o "sudacas"
PauLa : I don´t care
BillMcneal : that one never followed good intentions haha
CaptainJack : I wouldn't be annoyed at being scots, many don't like Scotch, as it sort of defines them as a product, like whisky, but really it's just a word at the end of the day unless its said with malice
PauLa : vesre, lol
BillMcneal : can't even vesrear "escocés"
BillMcneal : cesco? hmm
CaptainJack : so argintenians don't like being called argies?
CaptainJack : whats vesre?
CaptainJack : shorten?
BillMcneal : i actually like it, but i'm not easily offended by names
PauLa : I knew he was going to ask
CaptainJack : :D
BillMcneal : it's changing the order of syllables, so "gordo" will be "dogor"
BillMcneal : doctor = el tordo
PauLa : lunfa sabés?
CaptainJack : and Evangelist would be Evil angels
BillMcneal : it's complicated, doesn't work well with long words haha
BillMcneal : dorlunfa (?)
PauLa : me lo sacaste de los dedos
BillMcneal : if scottish bob ever makes a comeback i'm calling him scotch, to see how he reacts
BillMcneal : it'll probably pizz him off, everything does
