JohnDeUSA : I think that is because of the growth of the hispanic/latin culture
Lynx : soccer was invented by the English
JohnDeUSA : I played it as a sport when i was in elementary school. it was fun
JohnDeUSA : However, it wasn't something that was offered as an organized sport in middle and high school
AnaB : ey John
AnaB : I have an English related question
AnaB : can you help me?
JohnDeUSA : Hello ana
JohnDeUSA : what's your question?
JohnDeUSA : I hope its not too hard because I am not an English teacher.
AnaB : what's the difference between will and shall?
Ric : Hey John. Welcome back.
JohnDeUSA : shall is use a lot in legal documents and many times needs that the action is required
JohnDeUSA : let me rephrase that
AnaB : ok let's say it's more "formal"?
AnaB : and implies a certain obligation?
JohnDeUSA : Ana will do her homework
AnaB : so it could be a synonim of must
JohnDeUSA : Ana shall complete the additional homework assignment or she will not be allowed to graduate from the course.
Ric : You can also use "shall" in everyday relaxed situations to offer doing something for somebody. I.e. "Shall I pone the window?"
AnaB : yes but there's no "future" meaning there
AnaB : it could be Should I
Ric : No, it has a slightly difference nuance
Ric : Shall I open the window? is like asking somebody if he/she is ok with you opening the window
AnaB : I will add that then
JohnDeUSA : Is there a sentence you're attempting to complete with the two words ?
AnaB : No, I am explaining the future with will and I want to add that SHall can also be used to make future sentences
Ric : Should I open the window? is more like asking somebody if you'd do right by opening the window
AnaB : vale, entonces cómo explico eso en castellano?
AnaB : para pedir acuerdo?
Lynx : explícalo en andalú xD
Ric : Better with examples
AnaB : si claro jjjajaj
Ric : lol Lynxito
JohnDeUSA : Ave maria
AnaB : quiero poner ejemplos pero necesito que entiendan el uso
JohnDeUSA : no problem
JohnDeUSA : Ana were you able to understand what i explained ?
Ric : I can't believe the weekend has almost drawn to an end
JohnDeUSA : Mine has just begun
AnaB : yes, John
JohnDeUSA : I have to work tonight. Ughhhhhhh
AnaB : I got it
JohnDeUSA : you're welcome
Ric : John, we need to hit the jackpot
Lynx : I've won €7 in the Euromillion, Ric
jdawg78 : Hola a todos!
JohnDeUSA : if i won the lottery, I would disappear because everyone would want me to share it with them
Ric : Lynxito, that's too much money on your hands
Lynx : I will invest it in another bet
Ric : don't let it go up to your head
Ric : JD!
Lynx : hey jdawg
JohnDeUSA : Have you seen some of the stories where people won large sums of money from the lotteries and eventually they spend it all and were broke.
JohnDeUSA : Some of them ended up in worst financial shape that previous
Lynx : those people never saw that money in their whole life
jdawg78 : Hola Lynx!
jdawg78 : Hola Ric!
Ric : Yes, that's common currency among people that just strike it lucky over night
JohnDeUSA : I went to Las Vegas many years ago. I played the nickle slot machines. I lost a total of .25 cents and walked away. That was my experience with gambling.
Ric : sorry, typing on the mobile phone
JohnDeUSA : Many is too hard to acquire just to play a game and loose everything.
Ric : lol John, I went to Las Vegas and literally just walked by all the slot machines and roulettes
JohnDeUSA : there are people who have to pay their rent and will go to the casino and play and loss the rent money
Ric : that's a crying shame
JohnDeUSA : I just don't understand it. One has to have somewhere to live but you loss it all on a game
Ric : people like that are in dire need of therapy
JohnDeUSA : My priority is this: My home is first, water is second, electricity third, and food is last.
Ric : I'd swap electricity for food lol. If there are candles, I'll make do
jdawg78 : My tongue is on fire.
JohnDeUSA : I can acquire assistance in getting food if needed but getting someone to pay the rent is much more difficult
Ric : JD, still??
Ric : true that, John
jdawg78 : Well, I had soup yesterday and I think that just exacerbated it.
JohnDeUSA : In the United States, there are housing laws that require a home to have electricity and water, so if they electricity is terminated, then there is a possibility of the government evicting the person from the home.
JohnDeUSA : So one has to have their priorities in order or face living on the streets.
JohnDeUSA : I've always had a fear of living under the stars for a living
JohnDeUSA : so that is why i worked all my life
Ric : we all harbour that fear one way or another
JohnDeUSA : i just can't imagine living in extreme weather
Ric : But as long as you have your people around you, nobody would let you fall
JohnDeUSA : there are those who die from the extreme heat and or cold
JohnDeUSA : well, the streets are filled with homeless people
Ric : that's really sad
Ric : the government should take care of them
JohnDeUSA : luckily, i have my pension, so my mortgage and basic necessities are paid with that and i have some money left for food and other expenses.
JohnDeUSA : Perhaps I'll move to Spain and allow the government to help me
Ric : lol good luck with that
jdawg78 : Have you considered doing a side gig for extra cash?
