Travis : lol of course
Travis : Not really, maybe one small one that lasts 30 seconds once a generation...nothing like Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska
Travis : I'm in the high desert, but also the Rockies
bob : we never get extremes of weather
Travis : We're due for "a big" earthquake eventually, and of course when the Yellowstone super caldera goes off, the US is over
bob : a really cold day is 1-2C and a really hot one is 32C
Travis : It'll be a game changer
Travis : We use fahrenheit here, but I get your point
bob : we have a Yellowstone Park like place here with geysers and hot pools mud pools
Travis : I was talking to Anne last night, you were here and you up and disappeared haha
Travis : But when Yellowstone goes off, it will screw with the whole world, it's that big
Travis : Hopefully it will happen in several hundred thousand years
bob : i can wait
Travis : Yellowstone has more geysers, thermo activity than the rest of the world combined I think
Travis : It's cool if you haven't seen it
Travis : You can wait
Travis : Whatever is left will eventually die off when our sun burns out in 5 billion years haha
Travis : How many NZers are there?
Travis : 5 million?
bob : population almost 5 mil
Travis : humans, not hobbits
Travis : OK, we have cities that large, hard to compare...but I hear it's pretty
bob : we have trees
bob : and its green
bob : im not really a scenery person
Travis : I used to collect stamps as a kid, I still have some old NZ postage stamps somewhere
bob : im more of a cathedral and castle person
Travis : omg wrong place to call home
Travis : Thus your boner for all things Europe
Travis : I like both
bob : no hsitory here
bob : oldest building is 1823
Travis : Are you religious?
bob : not counting Maori grass huts
Travis : Yes, you mentioned that, that's younger than even here
bob : im not religios....was raised a Catholic
Travis : No one goes to church anymore
Travis : And we wonder why society is going to hell fast haha
Travis : Maybe you can make grass huts great again
bob : the catholic church as crapped on itself
Travis : It has many times through the centuries.....and just limps along
bob : i went to catholic schools and wasnt molested once
Travis : You were probably a homely child
bob : i was a terribly naive and innocent child
bob : are u religious
Travis : So you were prime for the taking
Travis : I believe all religions are man-made
bob : i was made to pray as a child
Travis : But I think they can serve a purpose anyway
Travis : I was taught to pray too
Travis : Just not set prayers like Catholics
Travis : no Ave Maria, no Padre Nuestro
bob : we had to abide by the set responses
Travis : I think some people out of fear may not act out as bad as they normally would by believing in religion....I don't care WHY they restrain, just that they do
Travis : I think Catholicism is too robotic, and I always thought it was more a Mary Cult
bob : islam is worse
Travis : I believe that too
Travis : That's not the point
bob : are there things you dont do purely because of what would happen if you were caught
Travis : Not all parents teach their children civics, basic respect, how to be a good citizen.....and church attendance is poor, schools try to be the parents and they're not allowed to....
bob : and if you could get away with it you would do them
Travis : Not that I can think of, but some do
Travis : Fear of hell, whether there is a real hell or not
Travis : or fear of going to prison, say that.....that keeps many people in check
bob : for there to be heaven there has to be hell
Travis : I'll do this...but I won't do THAT
Travis : I'm not going to argue that...but why exactly?
Travis : because both are mentioned in an old religious tome?
Travis : That's like saying for there to be a God, there must be a devil...not necessarily
Travis : But leave that for a day you can discuss it with Zara
bob : because for there to a 'good' that you must do there has to be an 'evil' that you mustnt
Travis : it's a colossal waste of time arguing over nuanced doctrines when no one knows for sure
Travis : That's a very Christian concept, not necessarily universal
Travis : And why couldn't there be a good God that created all without a negative sidekick, Satan, let's say
bob : batman and the joker
Travis : Because we like the convenient bookshelf?
Travis : it's all mental masturbation ultimately
Travis : You get all worked up, but no release haha
bob : do u get snow
Travis : Yes, most definitely
Travis : all four omg what's the word? estaciones
bob : i have never seen snow in real life
Travis : That's shocking
bob : its a blessing
Travis : I had never seen it snow until I moved to Utah
Travis : But I had skiied in California as a young person
Travis : Had to travel a couple of hours away
Travis : Iggy Stardust hola
Iguano13 : Hello travis
bob : i can travel a couple of hours and see snow
Travis : Then why haven't you, just for kicks?
bob : but why would i
Travis : for the experience???
bob : from what i have seen its wet and cold
Travis : for a change of pace????
Travis : to get the hell out of town????
Travis : It IS wet and cold, it's snow
