2320286 Travis : I thought that was mandated by federal law?
2320287 Jdawg78 : Yep.
2320288 Jdawg78 : So if you're by your self, you just clock out...
2320289 Travis : For me you got a 30-minute lunch for a 4-hour shift, and a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks for a full shift
2320290 Travis : I think it was like that for all of my jobs, even McDonalds
2320291 Jdawg78 : They also made us watch anti union videos as part of required training.
2320293 Jdawg78 : Where as, we have a union at the school district.
2320294 Travis : Imagine having to watch pro-union videos when you didn't want to, same deal
2320295 Travis : I loaded trucks for about a year for Rodeway (centered in Chicago I think) and had to pay teamster dues and all that
2320296 Travis : It is what it is
2320297 Jdawg78 : Well, the worthwhile videos are like learning how to do your job and such.
2320298 Jdawg78 : I don't have to pay for the union though. So best of both worlds.
2320299 Travis : I had to take a battery of tests every year to "keep current" at the prison. Self defense, first aid, harassment, blood-borne pathogens, safety measures, tons of stuff
2320300 Travis : Everyone hated it, but if you want to keep your job, toughen up, Cookie
2320301 Jdawg78 : We have bloodborne pathogens, cpr...stop the bleed...
2320302 Travis : They have liabilities and all that
2320303 Travis : Yep, had CPR too, had to know how to use three different mouthpieces. WHY????
2320304 Jdawg78 : I just thought it was funny for DG, "if you suspect someone is from the union rep company, report them to your boss immediately."
2320305 Travis : Tha'ts strange.....
2320306 Travis : Not really into workplace politics
2320307 Jdawg78 : "Boss, uh, Steve is asking me about my vacation time...and I think he has pamphlets in his briefcase."
2320308 Jdawg78 : Call the police!
2320309 Travis : I'm so glad to be retired lmao
2320310 Travis : Well on the flip side. I was a teamster in California and was constantly pressured to vote for the candidates that the union wanted
2320311 Travis : I don't think that should be allowed
2320312 Travis : Pay the dues is fine, because if there's a problem, they can go to bat for you, but pressuring you to think a certain way?????
2320313 Travis : I guess we live in an imperfect world
2320314 Jdawg78 : We just voted to see if we wanted them to represent us or not.
2320315 Travis : That's fine
2320316 Jdawg78 : I figured it was fine since I don't have to pay...I can join the union...
2320317 Travis : No complaint of that
2320318 Jdawg78 : But...not sure what the advantage would be.
2320319 Travis : I had to pay like $275/yr as a Teamster
2320320 Travis : That was 40 years ago
2320321 Jdawg78 : That's not too bad actually.
2320322 Travis : Back in those days California politically could go from blue to red and then to blue again, much more competitive
2320323 Travis : Always conservative and liberal pockets, but you had to earn the vote
2320324 Jdawg78 : I've given up on politics...I need to work on my spiritual side.
2320325 Travis : Spiritual side?
2320326 Travis : You're thinking Buddhist again?
2320327 Travis : Jesus loves you, Justin!
2320328 Travis : In the beginning was the Word :D
2320329 Jdawg78 : zen buddhism with a hint of nihlism. LOL
2320330 Travis : Oh boy lol
2320331 Travis : Good luck with that
2320332 Travis : I have a friend that reads only existentialist authors and he wonders why he is always depressed and borderline suicidal
2320333 Travis : Geez, no clue lol

2320347 Travis : Robert Heinlein
2320348 Jdawg78 : I've been reading a lot of true crime recently too.
2320349 Travis : Truman Capote In Cold Blood is a classic
2320350 Travis : Just reread To Kill a Mockingbird
2320351 Travis : That is a perfect book
2320352 Travis : Like the American Hamlet :D
2320353 Jdawg78 : So many things to reinstall on my phone.
2320354 Jdawg78 : Didn't realize I used that many apps.
2320355 Travis : I get most of my audiobooks for free through the local library, mostly digital. I download them, keep them for my leisure and then delete when I'm done
2320356 Jdawg78 : Libby is good for that.
2320357 Travis : Yeah, I'm the same way. And I try to move any photos to my laptop soon after for less clutter
2320358 Jdawg78 : You can add your library card and check out books.
2320359 Travis : Yes, I use the Libby library.
2320360 Travis : And audiobooks, hundreds of thousands of them. It's crazy!
2320361 Jdawg78 : Also found librivox...which has free audiobooks...mostly public domain stuff.
2320362 Travis : Your taxpayer dollars at work lol
2320363 Jdawg78 : I only use audible when they have a promo...like 30 day's free...
2320364 Jdawg78 : I've done that several times and get a free book each time.
2320365 Travis : Yes, use that too, but less, also you can get some on Gutenberg
2320366 Jdawg78 : Recently I did .99 cents a month for the first 3 months.
2320367 Travis : I haven't paid for an audiobook in 30 years of reading, but would if there were fewer options
2320368 Perritoadorable : Necesito chuy! Any palabra de el?
2320369 Travis : My mom had a subscription (cassette tapes) through a major company before she died
2320370 Travis : Dude, get a blow-up doll already!
2320371 Jdawg78 : Hola Perrito!
2320372 Perritoadorable : Zlibrary was great if its still around for ebooks
2320373 Perritoadorable : hola JD
2320374 Perritoadorable : did you stay in touch with the transexual from dollar general after leaving?

2320378 Perritoadorable : No word from maku yet?
2320379 Jdawg78 : I saw him tonight.

2320381 Jdawg78 : He's fine.

2320383 Travis : oh brother
2320384 Perritoadorable : ahh where has he been? Why not here?
